Home Décor for the Small Homeowner
Many people have small homes or apartments which they own and often time’s people feel cramped and uncomfortable. With a few minor adjustments to the décor of the house you could easily change the atmosphere and make it a warm inviting haven for you, your family and friends. For those of you who feel you can get your hands dirty a little bit there are some more “hands on” décor that you can try as well. There are literally hundreds of ways that a homeowner can change the décor of there house and I would be here all day if I listed them all so I’ve decided to give you my top three home décor ideas on my list for the small homeowner.
1. Paint selection.
When you choose paint colors for a small house you want to try and avoid the strong colors that pop out at you because it will make the room seem a lot smaller. Instead of the bright and strong colors like blue, red and green try choosing light tones like for instance soft yellows or tans. If you must use one of three colors I listed not to use then make sure you use a very soft and toned down mixture of the color. You can also paint just one wall a strong solid color and then use a lighter tone for the remaining walls in the room. This can add a dramatic effect as well as make it more comfortable and happy. Adding color in the right places is vital when decorating a small home and you can always replace paint so try things out that you think you may like and worse case scenario you will have to repaint.
2. Area Rugs.
By adding a small circular area rug to your small square or rectangular room you can achieve a look that will make it appear larger. A carefully chosen area rug can make a huge difference in a small drab room and is one of the least expensive methods of livening up your home décor. Area rugs are also a good piece to add into rooms that need some color. Instead of throwing a bright coat of paint on the wall you could place an area rug on the floor to add the color and it would appeal more to the eye. When choosing an area rug try and stay within the color template of the current décor of the room. Alternatively if you’re changing the décor try picking an area rug that you can base the whole room’s décor on and see the beautiful effect you can achieve.
3. Furniture Placement.
When you’re living in a small home or apartment you need to try and implement a strategic plan for the placement of your furniture. Although it may sound like to much effort to go through it will make a small home look a lot bigger. Choose smaller modern sofas and beds that will fit in with the size of the room. Don’t try to fit a king size bed in a small 10×10 room as well as don’t try placing an L shaped couch in a small living room. Choose the placement of your furniture wisely and you will notice the rooms will appear that they have more space in them to move around and will make the house a lot more appealing.
